Dual Enrollment

Dual Enrollment is availble to students attending high schools in Pearl River Community College's six county district.

What is Dual Enrollment?

Dual enrollment is a program that allows high school students to simultaneously earn college or vocational credit toward a postsecondary diploma at a Mississippi public institution that will also count as credit toward a high school diploma.

Who is eligible?

A high school student is eligible for dual enrollment at Pearl River Community College if the student has:

  • Completed a minimum of 14 core high school units (exception: any student who has earned a minimum of 30 on the ACT and has the required GPA and recommendation as described below can participate even if 14 core credits have not been earned)
  • Earned a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale, or better, on all high school courses, as documented on an official  high school transcript
  • Obtained an unconditional written recommendation from their high school principal and/or guidance counselor
  • Scored the appropriate sub-test scores on the English, Reading, and Mathematics subtests of the ACT test: English (16 or above), Reading (16 or above), and Mathematics(18 or above)
  • All dual enrollment students must have ACT scores on file with PRCC.

Important Facts

  • Prior to enrollment, the student must receive written permission from the appropriate high school official for participation.
  • It is the responsibility of the student to meet admissions requirements of the institution and pay all fees required by Pearl River Community College for credit.
  • PRCC no longer rents textbooks. Textbook costs for the college course(s) are the responsibility of the parent and/or student.
  • If the student wants to drop out of the college course, he/she must obtain a signed form for this purpose from the high school counselor to take to the college, where the official drop action will occur. Tuition is not refunded or prorated for any withdrawal that occurs after the student has attended class.
  • The grade earned at PRCC will be the grade assigned for dual enrollment at the high school. The grade shall become a part of the grade point average and affect class ranking. Parents are advised that mid-term grades at the college level may not be reflective of actual overall performance in the course.
  • Tuition is waived for Dual enrollment classes taught on the high school campus (Option 1).  Students will pay a $25.00 registration fee per course.  Students who are dually enrolled in online or on-campus classes are charged at the regular tuition rate, and all fees associated with said classes are assessed (Option 2).
  • Dual Enrollment students are responsible for the cost of the textbook. Each high school coordinates the purchase of the textbooks with the Office of Extended Education & Instructional Design.
