Dr. Benny J. Hornsby teaches Psychology, Sociology, History, English, and Philosophy at the Hattiesburg campus of Pearl River Community College, where he also serves as in Instructional Area Coordinator. He holds degrees from Pearl River Community College (AAS: Auto Mechanics), University of Southern Mississippi (BA: English; MS: Counseling; Ed.S: Secondary Education), New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (Th.M: Theology), University of Oklahoma (MA: Psychology and Human Relations), University of Rhode Island (MA: English), San Diego State University (MA: Asian History), Fuller Theological Seminary (D.Min: Theology), and New Mexico State University, Las Cruces (MA, Rural Sociology).
He served on active duty in the Navy as a Southern Baptist chaplain for thirty-six years, serving eighteen years at sea and visiting over 100 foreign countries. He retired in 1996 with the rank of Captain (O-6); and he has taught at eight colleges, universities, and religious seminaries. He was selected as the Pearl River Community College Humanities Teacher of the Year for 2008-2009. He has taught full-time at Pearl River Community College, Hattiesburg campus, since 2005.
